From Cluttered to Chic | Extreme Closet Makeover

I bought a house about two years and the one thing I have yet to perfect is my crazy closet! This makeover is just shy of driving me insane, so I thought it was finally time to show it some love. I’ve been heavily procrastinating on this project because of how time-consuming and mentally draining it is. But, when it was all finally done I had a huge weight lifted off my chest and it was amazing. Thankfully, the door to my closet is hidden because when I say it was disorganized… I mean DISGUSTINGLY disorganized and cluttered! Keep scrolling to see how I gave my closet an extreme makeover!

Closet Clean-Out

When I tell you I got less than a minute into it before I realized how much work this whole thing is going to take! Taking every single item out of the closet and moving it to my room was the most tedious part of the entire transformation! On the other hand, this ended up being one of my most rewarding projects – tedious, but rewarding.

I started by taking out every article of clothing I owned, going through it, and sorting it into four piles: donate, keep, sell on my DEPOP, and one for all the pieces I was unsure about. To help make this process go a little smoother, I asked myself the following questions:

Does it bring me joy / Do you love it / Do you feel confident when wearing it?
Does it fit / Is it stained / Does it smell / Do you even wear it?
Would someone else give it a better home?
Is this something you would buy right now if you saw it in a store?
Do you already own something similar? If so, keep the favorite option.
Does it project the image/vibe you want to give off?
Are you keeping it just because it costs a lot of money? If so, sell it!

Once I realized my keep pile was a lot more than I expected, I decided to take it a step further and sort my keep pile into two more piles. I put the clothes that I currently wear back into my closet, and then all the other clothes that I wanted to keep for the future, I put them into boxes and stored them under my bed.

Closet Makeover

Now to the fun part, decorating! I needed to bring some life into my new dream closet so I added a small faux plant, a chic bamboo box to store all my accessories, a mini dish to hold my rings, some gold hooks to hang my favorite purses, and last but not least a cute little gold frame.

One of my favorite finds from the entire makeover is these magnetic shelf labels. Not only, can you print labels and stick them on, but it also comes with tiny Sharpie pens you can write them with. They are so easy to use, affordable, chic, and stick to any material…. including these fabric storage bins.
